Hawaii College of Oriental Medicine

Formerly Named "Traditional Chinese Medical College of Hawaii"

Learning In Hawaii.   "Dreams of Paradise"

The Hawaii College of Oriental Medicine is located in the town of Hilo on the youngest and largest of the Hawaiian Islands, called “The Big Island”.

Hilo is the county seat, and is a charming historic town located on the greener side of the island with its panoramic views of Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa, and the blue Pacific Ocean. The world famous Merrie Monarch hula festival, a branch of the University of Hawaii, and home of numerous farmers’ markets, beach parks, botanical gardens and the spectacular Volcanoes National Park.

The College operates a satellite community clinic in the picturesque town of Waimea at the foot of Mauna Kea. While possessing a rural atmosphere amidst high-plateau ranch land, Waimea offers a sampling of the amenities and conveniences of the mainland, all served up with a warm dose of aloha spirit. Waimea, at an elevation of 2600 feet, has a temperate climate. It is sunny but rarely hot in the summer, mild in fall and spring, and cools in the winter, most days with a misty rain.

On the Western side of the island are the famed white sand beaches of the Kohala Coast. The town of Kailua-Kona, a center for tourism, is about two hours away from Hilo.

Circling the Big Island, takes one through an intriguing variety of climates and eco-zones: grasslands and ranch country, volcanoes and lava fields, tropical rain forests, beaches with white, black, and even green sand, and waterfalls tumbling into lush, seemingly timeless valleys where Hawaiian traditions are still alive.
